Recipes: Massel Savoury Crepes (Serves: 3-4)

There is no reason to be intimidated by making crepes at home. Once you accept that the first one won’t turn out, it’s sure to be smooth sailing.

This savoury crepe recipe is not only easy, but fun for the whole family. Simply fill, top or layer with with your favourite savoury ingredients. Some of our favourites include feta and basil pesto; cheesy eggs; chicken and avocado; and salmon and cream cheese! They’re also delectable on their own with a smidgeon of butter. Make savoury crepes a weekend tradition in your household.

The Recipe


  • 1 teaspoon Massel Chicken Style or Vegetable Sytle Stock Power
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cup sifted all purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk, plus a little more for thinning batter if needed
  • Pad of butter or drizzle of olive oil


  1. Beat eggs into a mixing bowl. Whisk in a couple of tablespoons of the flour, the Massel Stock Powder and some of the milk.
  2. Continue whisking while adding all the ingredients until you have a smooth, rather runny batter.
  3. Stand in a cool place for half an hour or so. The batter will thicken while standing.
  4. On medium-high heat, in a large fry pan or pancake pan, heat up butter/oil. If using a non-stick pan you will not need to repeatedly oil.
  5. When the oil is hot, add approximately a ¼ cup of the batter to pan.
  6. Rotate the pan quickly for the batter to coat the whole surface of the pan. Cook until small bubbles appear (about 1 min), then using a spatula loosen the edges of the pancake, slide the spatula under the pancake and turn it.
  7. Cook for one further minute, then remove to plate. Repeat until all the batter is used. Fill crepes with your favourite savoury fillings, roll up and enjoy.
